Masters Dissertation Workshop: Introduction to SPSS Online

This workshop is primarily aimed at Masters students who will be using SPSS as part of their dissertation, but who have never used SPSS before or have very little experience with it. You are also welcome to attend if it’s been a while since you used SPSS and you’d like a refresher on the basics. A very basic knowledge of statistics is assumed.

In this workshop we will:

  • Familiarise ourselves with the SPSS interface and some of its key features.

  • Learn some important SPSS terminology.

  • See how to format data in Excel so that it can be easily imported into SPSS.

  • Tidy and recode data once it is in SPSS.

The workshop will run online over Microsoft Teams. To get the most out of it you are encouraged to have both SPSS and Excel running on your machine so that you can follow along with the activities, though this is not mandatory. To access SPSS on your own PC/laptop please email the IT Service Desk at servicedesk@qmul.ac.uk
